Courage at the Children’s Memorial Institute
We are thrilled to announce that Courage will be helping the Children’s Memorial Institute in their 100 Year Celebrations which start on the 28th October 2023. As part of this process we will be helping to facilitate the development of a future vision for the next 100 years, showcasing the incredible child centred NPO brands that call the CMI their home. We will also be developing a Sensory Space for both the children who attend therapy and school at the CMI to enjoy, and for the public to engage in the world of Sensory Therapy in an innovative, fun and engaging environment. For an introduction to our plans please watch our initial strategy presentation here.
For all the wonderful people who attended our Spring Day kick-off brand engagement workshop, you can download the presentation and templates we used below.
Foetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder
Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is caused by exposing an unborn child to alcohol during pregnancy and impacts on their physical, behavioural and cognitive development. Research from 2017 identified that the prevalence of FASD was 8 per 1000 children globally, however, in South Africa, the national prevalence ranges from 29 to 290 per 1000 live births in different communities across the country. This Courage video outlines some of the child protection challenges we need to be aware of as parents, educators, community members and child protection officers, which span crisis pregnancy, maternal health and alcohol abuse.
The State of Child Protection in South Africa in 2022
The South African Children’s Act Amendment Hearings, took place in May 2021. Questions were asked about the state of child protection in South Africa and the relevance of Adoption as a strategy to care for our orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children. Courage developed this video to explore the issue. If you would like access to any reference material for this video, please email couragechildprotection7@gmail.com
